The venue of ESSLLI 2018 is the Rectorate of Sofia University “St. Kl. Ohridski”, situated in the center of the city.
Sofia University “St. Kl. Ohridski” (St. Clement of Ohrid) is the biggest and oldest university in Bulgaria, founded in 1888. The statues at the front of its main building, the Rectorate, honor the donation of the brothers Evlogi and Christo Georgievi, famous Bulgarian entrepreneurs and philanthropists.
The Rectorate holds three museums, all accessible free of charge. The Museum of Sofia University is located in the North wing, fl. 5 and opens 12.00 to 16.00 Tuesday through Thursday. Free tours are available upon request and here is a brochure you can download. You can combine that with a visit to the Paleontology and Historical Geology museum, also located in the North wing, fl. 5. Opening hours: 9.00 – 17.00 Monday to Friday. The Mineralogy and Petrology museum is located on the 5th floor of the South wing and it is open 9.00 – 17.00 Monday to Friday.
The University Library is located at the back of the Rectorate. Visitor passes are issued to guests for 3 lv. per day. The library is open 8.00 – 23.00 Monday to Saturday. Notice that the National Library, located to the left of the Rectorate, also offers guest access and pleasant working spaces. Visitor passes cost 3 lv. a day or 5 lv. for a week. The National Library is open 8.30 – 19.00 Monday to Saturday.
You can see Art students performing at the university ‘laboratory theater’ @LMA @LTER, located at the ground floor of the Rectorate (the entrance to the theater is to the right of the main staircase). The theater program is available here.
